Diros III, IV, V & VI

These four smaller works mark the next step in the Diros collection, born from the same journey to the Diros caves on the Peloponnese. The same stalactites, the same beige rock, the pale green moss and the reflection of water return in each of the four canvases, each one caught in slightly different light. Diros III, IV, V and VI are each 30 x 30 cm, built up with the palette knife, layer upon layer, in the same warm tones of beige, white, grey, brown and sand that define the collection, with metallic paint letting the light play across the texture. What makes these four works especially special is the frame: a dark brown, almost black wooden box frame with strikingly slim edges, letting the colours in the work speak for themselves. The four pieces hold their own individually, but are just as strong together. Let one stand alone, combine two into a diptych, three into a triptych, or bring all four together as a quadriptych — in every combination, the inspiration of the caves comes through. Hung together in a square, they form a calm, cohesive whole; stacked vertically, the series takes on a striking, different dynamic.
