Bronze Essence is an abstract diptych that grew out of a custom commission. At the Excellent Woonbeurs, the clients came across an earlier Gold & Pepper diptych. The powerful combination of texture, metallic accents and layering appealed to them immediately, though for their own interior they were looking for a warmer translation of that piece.
To find the right balance, I received colour samples of the floor, the wallpaper and the wall paint, and created two colour studies before they chose the final combination. It's precisely in those nuances — the shift from dark brown to taupe, the slightly warmer gold — that the connection between artwork and interior takes shape.
Like all my abstract paintings, Bronze Essence is built up from many layers of acrylic paint. I apply the first layers with a brush, after which the work develops further with a palette knife. This approach creates a rich texture and depth — the kind you want to get up close to and really explore. The champagne and rose gold metal leaf gives the diptych a subtle shimmer that shifts with the daylight.
The piece now hangs in the clients' living room, where it's admired every day. Renders of Bronze Essence have also been created in other interior settings, giving an impression of how the diptych comes into its own in different spaces.
"Marella's artworks caught our attention right away when we came across her profile on Instagram. She inspired us enormously! [...] We are incredibly happy with the end result, which became a diptych. Thank you again, Marella, for these beautiful artworks that we still enjoy every day."
